15 Actions to Promote Sustainability in Everyday Life: ‘Home Equals Planet’ by Earth5R

The global average atmospheric carbon dioxide in 2019 was 409.8 parts per million (ppm for short), with a range of uncertainty of plus or minus 0.1 ppm. Carbon dioxide levels today are higher than at any point in at least the past 800,000 years.

With carbon dioxide accelerating global warming, it becomes increasingly crucial to promote actions which reduce the emission of greenhouse gases at not only the business level but more importantly at the individual level.

Through the 15 Actions in the Home Equals Planet Project, all citizens can benefit the environment at the household level by pursuing a healthier and sustainable lifestyle.

For instance, conserving energy, one of the 15 tangible actions, significantly lessens the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere which in turn decelerates global warming.

Action 05 of the Home Equals Planet Training — Conserve Energy

Arriving from San Jose, California, two juniors in high school, Lucy Han and Alvin Banh are here today to discuss their experiences on the Home Equals Planet 15 Actions Training.

LUCY HAN :The Home Equals Planet presentation was loaded with thought-provoking facts that I never knew before the session. The statistic that stated how spending time in nature will decrease your chance of getting mental health issues by 55% SHOCKED me.

The training was supported with specific day-to-day strategies to reduce my normalized bad habits by using trackers to take note on how many times I eat meat, recycle, etc.

I definitely left the presentation feeling more educated and sure about my lifestyle choices, becoming more mindful of me and my family’s energy consumption and the efforts we make daily to preserve our planet.

Therefore, I’ve begun to prioritize my own sense of accountability and commitment towards my environment.

After the 15 Actions training, I’ve started spending more time in nature with my family at our local park.

This way, I’ll be maintaining my health and improving my well-being while making sure I endorse green transportation (walking/biking instead of driving for longer distances).”

Alvin Banh believes innovation is key to solving climate change and that everyone can take part in the solution.

ALVIN BANH : “The Home Equals Planet presentation was very well put together and organized.

Previously, I had exercised less than 25% of the monthly time, but after attending the training, I have increased my exercise to 25% of my weekly time.

My lifestyle changed as I started committing to exercising more and avoiding plastic in order to contribute less to climate change and pollution.”

Experiences from citizens like Alvin and Lucy are exactly why Earth5R continues to encourage individual action for the environment through the Home Equals Planet Project.

Only through the united efforts of citizens, governments, and businesses alike, can we successfully address major environmental issues plaguing our country today and promote sustainability in our everyday lives.

17 Sustainable Development Goals (United Nations)

Moreover, the Home Equals Planet Training also aligns closely with the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. Adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development calls for urgent action by all countries towards addressing major global matters such as poverty and inequality while tackling environmental issues including climate change and ocean acidification.

Earth5R’s Home Equals Planet project does just that: equip citizens with the knowledge to perform actions addressing climate change and other global issues in order to spread environmental awareness and thus create a healthy and sustainable planet for all.

The Earth5R team would like to appeal to all the citizens to participate, take action and further encourage others to take action. Reach out to Earth5R to know more about the Home Equals Planet program. Visit their website at https://earth5r.org/ .
