Improper waste management and the inability to create a circular economy are among the major global challenges today. Sustainability can truly be achieved if we resolve the root causes of these problems.

How are Circular Economy and Waste Management related ?

A Circular Economy aims towards reducing the use of raw materials and resources. It promotes recycling and reuse of waste that is already in the loop, fulfilling the purpose of saving scarce resources and reducing the amount of waste that ends up in landfills and oceans.

In order to recycle and create upcycled waste products, households need to practice proper waste segregation.

It not only makes recycling and upcycling easier, but segregation promotes activities like composting of organic waste.

The processes of manufacturing and sale of products created out of this waste are then turned into a means of livelihood for the disadvantaged section of the society.

Waste Management and Livelihood Training in Chandivali, Mumbai

Earth5R’s Waste Management and Livelihood training program is an initiative that solves the problem of waste management, whilst creating a circular economy and providing means of livelihood to many.

Earth5R’s citizen volunteers conduct these training sessions in their area, using pictorial representation and demonstration. One such training was conducted on 22nd March, 2021 for the residents of Chandivali, Powai on Jama Masjid Road in Mumbai, India.

The creation and sale of upcycled products is an element of the training that is highly enjoyed by women. It empowers and equips them with the right knowledge and skills, making them independent.
